BU Sweeps HAAC Indoor Meet

LAMONI, Iowa The Baker University track and field team swept the 2014 HAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Lamoni, Iowa on the campus of Graceland University.

The women's team took first by over 230 points by defeating Benedictine College, 374-144 and the men's squad finished in first by nearly a 100 points defeating Missouri Valley 247-164.5.

In day one of the event, the Baker women won five out of seven events, the women ended the day in the lead with a dominating 120 points, with Benedictine College in second with 42 points.

Adding to Baker's 10 national qualifiers was sophomore Billi Pipes in the women's 60 meter dash with a converted time of 7.86 seconds, freshman Kiana Turner also in the 60 meter dash with a converted time of 7.87 seconds and senior Megan Rosa in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 18 minutes and 25 seconds.

Continuing the women's success, Junior Kayla Hannam broke her own school record in the triple jump with a mark of 11.45 meters, moving her up to 8th place going into the national meet.

The men also finished day one leading with 54 points while Missouri Valley College scored 51.

Senior Jeremy Gathright led the men's team winning the men's triple jump for the fourth year in a row with a jump of 14.14 meters. Sophomore Avery Parker and junior Greg Henning rounded out the triple jump placing second and fourth, respectively.

In the men's weight throw, freshman Joshua Peck won by hitting a personal best of 16.43 meters.

Going into day two, the women will lead off with five out of the eight finalists in the 55 meter hurdles, six out of eight in the 55 meter dash and five out of eight in the 200 meter dash.

The men will send two finalists each in the 55 meter hurdles and the 55 meter dash and three finalists in the 200 meter dash.
