Wildcats Shine at JCCC Meet

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University indoor track and field team competed in the Dave Burgess Invitational hosted by Johnson Country Community College over the weekend and posted some stellar times and marks.

Freshman high jumper Danielle French won the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters in her first collegiate meet and fellow freshman Avery Parker took third in the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.98 meters.

Baker also finished 1-2 in the men's 400-meter dash with Dayshawn Berndt finishing first in a time of 50.65 just beating teammate Jeremy Gathright by a nose, as he took second in a time of 50.66.

The Wildcats also finished 1-2 in the women's shot put. Stephanie Nelson won the event with her throw of 12.61 meters and Valerie Schirmer finished just behind her with a throw of 12.28.

Ariella Harrison had a solid showing in the women's 400-meter dash with her second-place finish in a time of 1:03.67.

The Wildcats will next compete Indoors on Jan 18-19 in Ames, Iowa at the Iowa State Open.
