Baker Cross Country Competes at NAIA Preview

LAWRENCE, Kan. The Baker University cross country team competed at Rim Rock Farm on Saturday at the site of the 2014 NAIA Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championship at the NAIA Preview meet.

The men's team took home 18th place out of 31 teams, while the women's team captured 24th out of 32 teams.

Gunnar Hayes ran the fastest 8K time of any Baker Wildcat on Saturday in a time of 27:09 and took home 62nd place, while Corey Matteson and Joe Linder finished up behind him in 80th and 95th place respectively.

Also competing for Baker was senior Vincent Tadokoro who placed 134th in a time of 28:23 and sophomore Carter Breithaupt took home 188th in a time of 29:18.

Sophomores Andrew Emanuels and Andrew Dare also competed on Saturday with Emanuels finishing 236th and Dare taking home 248th.

In the women's race, Sarah Hollis and Rachel Ash finished just two seconds away from each other, as Hollis took home 99th place in a time of 20:23 and Ash finished in 103rd place in a time of 20:25.

Brenda McCollum finished in 194th in a time of 21:39 and teammate Autumn Sifuentes was 203rd. Also taking on the NAIA Preview was Shelby Stephens with her 223rd place finish and Amanda Moody was 246th.

Caitlin Apollo was 258th on the day and Ziara McDowell didn't finish far off with her 270th place finish. Rachel Campbell was the final Wildcat to finish the race in 281st place.
